What began as a quick study and soon turned into one of my favorite pieces that really pushed on negative shapes to depict a landscape, this piece is based on my travels to Japan. I spent several months in east Asia and the most breathtaking scenery came from the juxtaposition of the architecture amongst the greenery. I wanted to capture the difference between the detailed line work of the building and the organic curvature of the trees alongside the similarities in earth tones and use of wood that kept them in harmony.
